So why does the sixth book of the MISTRESSES of the Board Room book feature a Male Dom? This question has come up a few times from those not familiar with the background of the series. If you're one of those (or you just want to confirm your own understanding) here's the explanation.
The Mistresses of the Board Room books were a spinoff from my fan favorite Knights of the Board Room series. Initially, there were FIVE Male Dom/female sub books planned for the Knights series, because their were FIVE Dom heroes - Matt, Lucas, Peter, Jon and Ben, the top tier management team of Kensington & Associates. However, over the course of their stories, two side characters decided they wanted their own story, which turned a five-book series into seven books.
One of those books (Soul Rest) was about Celeste, the journalist who gave them the Knights of the Board Room nickname. She fell for their Dom cop friend, Leland Keller. So that book kept the Male Dom/female sub dynamic. However, between that book and the other five was book SIX (Willing Sacrifice), which was about Matt's executive admin, Janet. Janet was 100% formidable Domme, and her hero became the K&A limo driver and former Navy SEAL, Max.
Throughout the Mistresses of the Board Room series, Bastion, the Thomas Rose Associates office manager/executive admin, has been a strong presence. So, no surprise, keeping the loosely parallel structure with the other series, the muse decided his story needed to be Book 6. Will there be a Book 7 to complete the balance between the two series? We'll see. For right now, we'll focus on Book 6.
Earlier this month I asked my social media followers/readers for some guidance on titles. Since all the MBR books are "At Her...." I was looking for "At His..." suggestions. I received some excellent options which led to my final decision, but I hit a hitch. Bastion's story is a menage. His fated mates are Ren Borgata and Swan Foster. Ren is a Dom who will switch for the right Dom, while Swan is all submissive, and it's Ren who sees and wants her first.
So with a little thought, I gave the title a twist I hope you like as much as I did. Here it is - cover and title, tada!

Do you like it? Here it is in graphic context with the other Mistresses of the Board Room books. All these titles can standalone, but there are guest appearances by the other book MCs throughout all the stories. You're welcome to read from the beginning (or re-read) to pass the time before the release. I have my fingers crossed for Fall 2026, but unless something unexpected happens, it will be no later than the end of the year. Once I'm sure of the date, I'll set up a preorder. In the meantime, I should have a blurb and/or some teaser quotes for you by next month!
As you know, family issues have kept progress on the book slow, but I did get a brief lull earlier in April and released this word count report to my readers on social media (it's now about 25k). I intend to return to my normal writing schedule this month.

It took me awhile to find the photo that captured Swan's wary and guarded demeanor and unique beauty, and this model is close enough to the image in my head to work. But she and her heroes can look however you wish them to look in your head!
So, regarding that family issue, my mother-in-law passed peacefully with family around her on Sunday, April 19. While she and I weren't an easy fit in some areas, we shared a love of reading, and in the 70s and 80s, she was an avid bodice ripper fan! Judith McNaught, Jude Devereaux, Kathleen Woodiwiss and also Mary Stewart’s classic romantic suspense, like Nine Coaches Waiting, were all in her keeper library. She had many of the books with their original clinch covers, so you know I loved that. I now have TWO original cover copies of Ashes in the Wind on my shelf.
Though she never pursued it, she was an accomplished writer, and when she kept a log on her many travels with her husband and sisters, she would have delightful meandering passages, like this one about fishermen at Cedar Key: “none seemed terribly concerned about catching anything…there’s the most fantastic breeze blowing in and it keeps the sun from being too fierce.”
She adored poetry and could quote her favorites by heart. She mentioned Red Geraniums by Martha Haskell Clark a few times during her last days, and I excerpted this short quote from it for her obituary:
I’ll set my heart at rest,
And thank God for home-sweet things, a green and friendly hill,
And red geraniums aflame upon my window sill.

As I noted above, while I would not have wished for this to be the reason, now that she has passed from this life (and I hope rediscovered vibrant health, dancing, living life to its fullest - and reading!), I should be returning to my writing schedule and report more progress on the book next month.

HAVE YOU CHECKED THE AUTHOR'S WEBSITE?
I am ALWAYS delighted to hear from my readers, and I never mind answering your questions. However, about 90% of the general questions I receive on email can be quickly answered on my website, www.storywitch.com. And the cool thing is you get your answer in the time it takes you to do a couple clicks, versus having to type up your question and send it to me, then wait for me to emerge from my writing cave and check my email.
A lot of authors experience this now. Because we have so much more of a presence at FB, Twitter, and the like, it's easy to forget that most authors still maintain a website where you can quickly get info. On my site, you can not only find BLURBS and FREE EXCERPTS for every book I've published, you can find SERIES ORDER, including recommendations on which ones can stand alone or need specific titles to be read first. Under the In the Works page, you'll find information about UPCOMING RELEASES and what's percolating (the popular "will you ever write a book about so-n-so" question would be answered there).
Just go to my website, storywitch.com, and enjoy your visit. It is specifically and deliberately designed not to be flashy or confusing. Just look at the drop down menus at the top for what you're seeking.
Want a SIGNED BOOKMARK? I have seven beautiful bookmarks, each design representing one of my series: Knights of the Board Room, Nature of Desire, Vampire Queen, Arcane Shot, Daughters of Arianne, Mistresses of the Board Room, and Naughty Bits. You can look at them here (click on the one you like for a larger view).
Just shoot me an email at storywitch@storywitch.com with your mailing address and tell me which bookmark you want. I'll send you two of that design - one for you and one to share! And yes, I WILL mail bookmarks to international readers. NOTE: some of these show previous cover editions, but hopefully that doesn't detract from their appeal!
Want a SIGNED BOOK? Email me at storywitch@storywitch.com with 1) what book you want, 2) your mailing address, and 3) if you want me to personalize it to a particular name (Mary, Marie, Marissa, etc), or no personalization, just a signature and a cheery note. I'll send you an invoice and, once that's squared away, the book will be on its way to you!
Want a SIGNED BOOKPLATE? Want a bookplate for your favorite JWH book(s)? Just email me at storywitch@storywitch.com with your mailing address, the title(s) of the book(s), and I'll send you personalized bookplates anytime, free of charge. I always send it with a signed bookmark!

DIDN'T GET A RESPONSE?
Responding to my readers, and doing so in a very timely manner (within 24-48 hours), is extremely important to me. So if you have sent a communication to me in any medium noted above and have not received a response, a technical glitch has occurred. Either your communication did not get through, or my response did not reach you. If you suspect that's the case, use one of the alternative methods to send me a "Hey, Joey, I sent you a note through email (or social media platform, etc). Did you get it?" message, and we'll make sure we sort it out. I will never intentionally ignore my readers!
ARE YOU A NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBER, BUT YOU'RE HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING MY NEWSLETTER PAST YOUR SPAM FILTER? - Whenever I issue a newsletter, I will also post about it on the social media platforms mentioned above, to ensure it reaches the widest number of people possible. So if you're following me on any of them, you'll get a heads up. Or you can put https://storywitch.com/newsletter/?latest as one of your Favorite links. You can click on it anytime to see if a new newsletter has been released. I try to get a new issue out during the first 7 days of every month.
