MEDUSA'S HEART IS NOW ON THE FRONT BURNER
Okay, that sounded a little odd, but I think you know what I meant, lol. Medusa's Heart now has an official Countdown Page which, if you click on it, will tell you a little background info about my interest in Medusa, as well as give you a place to enter a fabulous release day giveaway. I'll be adding posts to this page soon, but before I started adding to it, I wanted to make sure it went out to my newsletter list with the introductory post up front and center. While you'll see some pretty pics on the Countdown Page, I've also started playing with Pinterest images that are helping with the inspiration for this book.
EXCERPT - There's also a rough draft Chapter One excerpt available as of now! You can click the book page link in the sidebar of the Countdown Page, or simply click here for that. In early October, I'll do the exclusive Chapter Two for the JWH Connection fan forum as always.
Just a little reminder of the book in a nutshell: The story is about Medusa (duh). Contemporary and paranormal lines will cross as our hero, John Pierce, leaves our world and time and steps into hers. The funny thing is I don't really care for time or interdimensional travel stories, or stories based in Greek mythology, but this is a book I've thought about writing for a long time. I doubt it will attract the same attention that my Knights of the Board Room, Vampire Queen or Nature of Desire series books have, but every once in awhile, an author gets a wild hair to step off her usual track and do something entirely different. Hope you won't mind taking a side journey with me for this one! We're looking at a planned release date of October 31, with preorder links starting to happen in mid to late September/early October timeframe. I'll keep you posted on those in all the normal places.
And since I know you will ask (one of the many reasons I love you all), the next project after Medusa's Heart will either be Cai/Rand for the Vampire Queen series, or Regina/Marius for the Nature of Desire. Cai/Rand were the vampire/wolf shifter servant pairing from Night's Templar, and Marius is our recurring troublemaker in NOD, the sub who will not be tamed. But Mistress Regina has some ideas on that. She first appeared at the auction in Branded Sanctuary.
I usually alternate my paranormal projects with contemporaries, because flipping back and forth seems to keep the creative perspective fresh in either genre. Which means Regina and Marius are most likely to be next, bbbuuuuutt... Cai and Rand are doing some heavy lobbying for their book, so we'll see what happens when I'm facing the final decision of which book to start around November/December of this year. Whichever one wins will likely come out in the spring, with the runner-up coming out in the fall. And yes, there will be a Christmas vignette freebie (no hints on that yet - muse is still deciding :>).
MORE AUDIOBOOKS COMING
I know a lot of you have been waiting for this announcement. I'm delighted to report that the latest Nature of Desire series book, Worth the Wait, as well as three more of the Knights of the Board Room books -- Afterlife, Hostile Takeover and Soul Rest -- are going to be produced and released as audiobooks by Audible! We just finalized the contract and I'm providing my casting notes (input on narrator choices), so I don't yet have a date when they'll be available, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. Hope you all are as excited about these four books being available on audio as I am!
While we still have no interest from Penguin/Random House on utilizing their audio rights on the Vampire Queen series books, Nightfall is available on audio, and eventually I may approach Audible about whether they'd have any interest in the self-pub Vampire Queen series titles (Elusive Hero, Scientific Method and Night's Templar). However, right now we concentrated on the series for which they already had audio editions available. With this decision above, the complete Nature of Desire series will be available on Audible, and all but Honor Bound/Controlled Response of Knights of the Board Room series (those two titles belong to Penguin/Random House).
LIFE LESSONS THAT STILL MAKE SENSE 28 YEARS LATER
I post a new blog topic on GoodReads every week. Sometimes they're just little quick insights about upcoming books. Sometimes they're whatever pointless topic I decide to inflict upon you all in the desperate quest to blog on a consistent schedule, regardless of whether or not I have anything useful to say (lol). However, readers responded well to this one: "Life Lessons that Still Make Sense - 28 Years Later", so wanted to share it here in case you haven't had a chance to see it and would like to do so. Click here to read it. If you want to keep track of what I babble about from week to week, you can bookmark this link and/or follow me on GoodReads to receive the weekly update. You're always welcome to leave comments, as well as suggestions for future topics. It might save me from being painfully boring (grin).
DO YOU LOVE READING ROMANCE?
Have you always loved it? Or are you just discovering this wonderful genre? Either way, there is an awesome documentary that is a joyful validation of our shared reading choice. Several years ago a group of committed folks began putting together a comprehensive documentary on the romance industry, why we love it and what it's all about, and Love Between the Covers is the result. The trailer alone gives you a dozen happy fuzzies. You can see it here, as well as options to rent or buy the documentary digitally. My understanding is eventually there will also be a DVD for individual sale. Right now copies can be obtained by libraries and organizations for group viewing. You can find more info about that here. Whether or not you decide to watch the full documentary, I highly recommend the trailer as a pick me up for your day!
HAVE YOU WRITTEN A GREAT FEMDOM SHORT STORY?
If you have, the BDSM Writers' Conference wants you to submit it for consideration in their upcoming FemDom anthology! You can find submission guidelines here. They're looking to spread the word that a Dominant woman is someone to respect and appreciate, in erotic fiction as well as in real life. Deadine is Valentine's Day 2017, so there's plenty of time to make your story shine. I can't wait to see all the great stories in the finished anthology.
AUTHORS AFTER DARK IN SAVANNAH - THE FINAL CON
It was a bittersweet pleasure to attend Authors After Dark in Savannah, Georgia this year, since this was the last installment of this conference. However, what was wonderful to see was no skimping on reader appreciation from the attending authors or staff--far from it. There were about 225 attendees, and the schedule was chock full of author-sponsored events, panels and other informal get-togethers to maximize author-reader time together in the beautiful setting of Savannah. I had the deep pleasure of reconnecting with long term reader friends and having the opportunity to meet new ones. Thank you all for spending time with me! The Erotic Trivia game that Julie Morgan, Tilly Greene and I emceed was well attended and hilarious as always. Want to know the winning question/answer for the grand prize winning team? Ancient Egyptians created an effective spermicide made out of a combination of what two ingredients?
1) Sour milk and crocodile dung
And the answer was... Sour milk and crocodile dung! Ewww...
At one point during the conference, I understand Sherrilyn Kenyon was running around in a pirate costume, and I hate I missed that! One of my favorite quiet moments was slipping into a chair in the corner of a darkened ballroom and looking out over a sea of inflatable furniture inhabited by readers and authors in pajamas. They were clutching movie popcorn and candy and watching the Charlie Hunnam double feature during the Drive-In night event. Oh, and after many, many years of having little to no interest in having a tattoo, I decided to get one. I posted it on my FB page here if you want to see it, and the lovely cat spirit upon which it was based! Voodoo Charlie did the honors, which was cool, since he and his buddy Ferg were the ones that provided me such great input for the tattoo scene with Evan and Niall in Taken by a Vampire.
Where am I going next?: This is it for me for awhile. I've been scaling back to just 1-2 of these a year for the past couple years, and now that I'm turning my focus more squarely on self-publishing and the best ways to promote those projects, my husband and I have agreed that 2017 will be a stay-at-home year. At this time I've only committed to one 2018 conference, the Sexy and Sassy (SASSE) signing July 6-7, 2018 in Norfolk, Virginia. This relatively new event, hosted by Literary Gossip, is becoming very popular, very quickly. If you are familiar with the energy and enthusiasm of the Literary Gossip ladies, that will not be a surprise to hear. There's an SASSE in Baltimore in 2017 if you're interested! Just check out that LG link I provided above for that.
How 2016-2017 go in terms of sales and other promotional opportunities will determine if I do more than that, but I definitely hope to get the chance to see as many of you as possible! But you know even if I'm not at conferences, I'm never further away than the nearest email, FB, Twitter, GoodReads or JWH Connection forum interaction. Staying in contact with you all keeps my creative batteries charged!
Bookplates: No need to be bummed about not seeing me at a book signing. Just shoot me an email at storywitch@PROTECTED with your mailing address and the title(s) of the book(s) for which you want a signature, and I'll send you personalized bookplates anytime, free of charge.
FORGET AWARDS AND ACCOLADES - LET'S ADD TO YOUR TBR LIST!
While I love to acknowledge the readers, reviewers and fellow authors who take the time to read and offer good words about my books, there's an extra boost to winning awards and/or being nominated to a list of favorites: I can add to MY reading list. Win-win! (lol) If you'd like to do the same, I'm delighted to report that Mara White listed me on Huffington Post in her article 15 BDSM Authors You Should Be Reading. And Rachel of Book Tribs listed me as one of 15 Female Romantica Authors Leaving Us Hot and Bothered! Finally, Night's Templar and Worth the Wait won categories in the BDSM Writers' Conference Golden Flogger Award. Here is the complete list of winners. And the finalists, also a great list. Thank you to all the decision makers that let me be part of these very talented lineups of erotica authors.
EXCITING THINGS COMING...
Okay, to close I'm going to be a great big tease. We have some very cool things we're trying to line up for the last part of 2016/early 2017, so keep an eye on this newsletter, or any of my usual social media outlets, for when the announcements will be made. I think (and hope!) you'll like our holiday surprises. And yes, as noted earlier, the usual annual vignette revisiting a select group of my characters will be part of that. But no, I can't tell you who it will feature yet, or what the other surprises will be! I will not be bribed by chocolate. Really. I mean it!
